인플레이션(영어: inflation)은 경제 전반에서 재화와 서비스의 일반적 물가수준이 일정 기간에 걸쳐 지속적으로 상승하여 화폐의 구매력이 하락하는 현상이다.[1][2]
인플레이션은 일반적으로 물가지수를 이용해 측정한다. 가장 널리 쓰이는 지표 가운데 하나는 소비자물가지수(CPI)이며, 이는 가계가 소비하는 대표적인 재화와 서비스 묶음의 가격 변화를 추적하는 데 쓰인다.[3] 또한 중앙은행은 인플레이션을 평가할 때 여러 물가지표를 함께 참고할 수 있다.[2]
- 소비자물가지수(CPI): 가계 소비지출을 기준으로 한 대표적 물가 지표
- 근원인플레이션: 식료품과 에너지처럼 변동성이 큰 품목을 제외해 기조적 물가 흐름을 파악하려는 지표
- 명목지표와 실질지표의 구분: 물가상승 영향을 제거했는지 여부에 따라 경제지표의 해석이 달라짐
- 디플레이션: 일반 물가수준이 지속적으로 하락하는 현상
- 스태그플레이션: 경기침체와 높은 인플레이션이 동시에 나타나는 현상
- 하이퍼인플레이션: 통제를 벗어난 극심한 물가상승
- 기대인플레이션: 경제주체가 예상하는 미래 물가상승률
